Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) offers various types of special assistance to ensure that all passengers have a comfortable and accessible travel experience. Below are some key services available.

The Compassion Corner serves as a multifunctional space for both passengers and airport personnel. There are three  key elements there:

• Sensory Room
• All Faiths Chapel
• Compassion Corner Office

 

Sensory Room

Sky Harbor features a dementia-friendly place in Terminal 4 for travelers seeking a quieter place. Located within the Compassion Corner chapel, the Sensory Room caters specifically to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities who may feel overwhelmed by the bustling airport atmosphere. This private room includes amenities such as tables, chairs, puzzles, and coloring books, creating a calming retreat. To gain entry into the Sensory Room, visitors should contact the number posted on the door during operating hours: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

All Faiths Chapel

Sky Harbor provides an interfaith chapel where individuals can find solace, gather their thoughts, relax, or seek spiritual guidance. Open to people of all beliefs, the chapel is situated in Terminal 4, Level 3, near the B elevators, and operates between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. Passengers and employees can use the chapel for personal prayer or worship. Additionally, upon availability, Navigator Chaplains and volunteer lay members offer support to those looking to connect with a religious representative. Special religious holiday services, such as Ash Wednesday, are occasionally held in the chapel.

Compassion Corner Office

This office space is regularly utilized by Navigator Chaplains for administrative tasks and to coordinate special needs assistance. It also serves as the pickup point for Compassion Cacti™ lanyards.

Compassion Cacti™ Lanyard Program

The Compassion Cacti™ lanyard program is designed for passengers who identify themselves as requiring additional assistance. When a traveler wears the green lanyard, airport employees know that the passenger may need extra assistance or a little more time at the check-in counter, security checkpoint and other areas. The Compassion Cacti™ lanyards can be kept and used each time the passenger travels through PHX, but the lanyard will only be recognized at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

Travelers, along with their parents, caregivers, or guardians, can request a Compassion Cacti™ lanyard before their trip by submitting a request form. Customer service staff typically process requests within 5-7 business days. Upon approval, you can collect it from the Compassion Corner Office by presenting a photo ID prior to or on the day of the flight.

Unaccompanied Minors

Airlines define unaccompanied minors as children traveling without a legal guardian or adult companion. Each airline sets its own policies regarding age limits and requirements for unaccompanied minors. Travelers should consult their chosen airline well in advance for detailed information about their specific unaccompanied minor programs. Some airlines issue gate passes to legal guardians who wish to accompany the child to the departure gate.

Navigator Support Guides

In addition to the Compassion Cacti lanyard, travelers can schedule appointments with Navigator Support Guides. These experienced airport volunteers offer friendly assistance in navigating the airport premises. They do not act as escorts but instead provide helpful directions and support. This service is available free of charge.

The Compassion Corner is conveniently located in Terminal 4, Level 3, behind Elevator B in the Chapel.
